Biathlon!

          (View on this evening's run)

After braving the scales this morning I discovered, to my disgust, that I'm back at the heaviest I have been since losing 18lbs and 4.9% fat between January and May.  I have put on 9lbs and gone up to 22% fat.  I think my lowest weight was unsustainable long term, so I'm aiming to lose half a stone and get back under 20% fat and then reassess.  No excuses, I've just been eating and drinking too much/the wrong stuff and been lazy, changes need to be made!

(Edited to add that weighing myself the following morning at the same time has shown me to have already lost 3lbs and 1% fat so I'm a bit confused on actual figures - will try again end of the week!)

I didn't really feel up to running tonight but thought I should give it a go, so to get a bit more exercise in and have a nicer view as I ran, I did a little biathlon type thing.  I cycled 3 miles to the seafront, ran 2 miles as then cycled home.

I struggled terribly with this run, a simple 1 mile out and back almost had me in tears and I even turned round at 0.8 miles as I didn't think I would make the full distance. I did finish, just about, but my hand hurt, my hamstring hurt, I got a stitch, I couldn't relax and get my breathing right ... If it could go wrong, it did!  Had planned to run the Crown to Crown 5k on Wednesday but I've now decided not to.  I loved the route and there's lots of friends going but it's a pretty tough course and I know I'd either be disappointed with my time or push myself really hard to do well and injure myself more. A tough decision but about time I made a sensible one!

When looking at my Garmin stats I noticed that my average run pace was 9:27, an improvement of at least 30 seconds/mile, often more, on every run I've done since fracturing my hand, so not actually as disappointing as it felt.  And the disappointment at thinking I had run terribly meant I tried to make the cycling count more on the home stretch and improved my average speed from 11.3 to 13.2 mph.

Totals today -

Cycle - 6.5 miles
Run - 2 miles

Septemberathon!

I've done Janathon, done Juneathon, now for ... Septemberathon!

Ok, it's not really an athon, but it is time for me to make some changes.

A combination of loads of really stressful stuff, no time over the holidays, an irritating hamstring problem and now a fractured hand mean I only managed to run just over 30 miles in August.  I've got miserable, I've got lazy and I've got fat.  Haven't yet braved weighing myself, that's something to look forward to tomorrow.

While I haven't been able to run as much, I've been cycling more, mostly with Olivia and the boys on my beautiful new bike - about 85 miles last month.

To lose a few lbs, get fitter and distract myself from the trauma of my baby trying school next week, I've set myself a little challenge. It's been a while since my last crazy idea!  This isn't as daft as the others, mostly as I know I'm not capable of much at the moment.  So far I have decided to make sure I do at least some exercise every day, mostly a few miles running or cycling but planning to try some swimming too. I'm even worse at swimming than anything else so that should be interesting!

Day 1 -

5 miles cycled
